📍 Location Data

dEATour uses your device's GPS to show you independently owned restaurants along your highway route. Location data is used exclusively for in-app functionality:

• Displaying restaurants near your current route
• Calculating detour times and distances
• Enabling the "Back to dEATour" button during navigation
• Verifying eligibility for restaurant promotions

Background location is used only when you have an active trip in progress. You will be asked to grant "Always Allow" permission to enable the full feature set, including background route tracking. You may use the app with "While Using" permission, with reduced functionality.

🔒 What We Collect

dEATour collects minimal data to operate and improve the app:

• An anonymous install identifier (randomly generated, stored on your device, never linked to your identity)
• Aggregate, anonymized route data to improve restaurant coverage along highways
• Restaurant interactions (taps, views) to improve recommendations — never linked to personal identity

dEATour collects email addresses when people sign up on our website or contact us for support. See "Our Website" below.

🚫 What We Never Do

• Sell your data to third parties — ever
• Track your location when the app is not in active use
• Share your information with advertisers
• Build a personal profile linked to your identity
• Use your data for purposes unrelated to finding restaurants on your route

📊 Anonymous Analytics

We collect anonymous, aggregate data to understand how highways and routes are used. This helps us expand restaurant coverage to new corridors and identify popular stops we may not yet have in our database.

This data cannot be traced back to any individual user. It is used solely to improve the quality and coverage of dEATour's restaurant recommendations.

🍽️ Restaurant Promotions

When a participating restaurant offers a promotion through dEATour, eligibility is verified locally on your device using your current location and estimated arrival time. No personally identifiable information is shared with the restaurant.

Restaurants are shown only aggregate, anonymized statistics — for example, how many app users passed their location on a given highway in a given month.

👶 Children's Privacy

dEATour is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

🔄 Data Retention

Anonymous analytics data is retained for up to 24 months to support trend analysis and route improvement. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data from your device, including your anonymous install identifier.

🌐 Our Website (deatour.net)

Email sign-up. If you sign up on deatour.net for road-trip picks and app news, we store your email address, when you signed up and when you confirmed. We send you an email asking you to confirm (and a new one if you sign up again). Until you confirm, we send you nothing else. We use your address only to send dEATour news and picks.

Who sees it. We don't sell your email or share it with advertisers or other companies. Our service providers (Cloudflare and Mailgun) process it only to run the site and send our emails.

Spam protection. To stop automated sign-ups we use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a sign-up comes from a person.

Network address. To limit abuse, we keep a salted, one-way hash of the IP address used to sign up, never the address itself. Hashes used for rate limiting are deleted within a few hours; the one stored with your sign-up is deleted along with it.

Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits. It does not use cookies or local storage and does not track you across sites.

Retention. If you don't confirm, your sign-up is deleted automatically 30 days after you last signed up. Confirmed addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.

Unsubscribing. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and mail apps that support it show a one-click Unsubscribe button. Unsubscribing deletes your address from our subscriber list. Our email provider keeps its delivery logs for a limited time.

If dEATour changes hands. If dEATour is sold or merged, this information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep honoring this policy.

Your choices. Email hello@deatour.net to see, correct or delete what we hold about you.

📝 Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
